Biography

Louisa Eliza Josephina Owen was born in Exminster, Devon, England in 1828. ^[1] She was the daughter of Robert Hassell Swaffield DL JP (1797-1870) and Eliza Mary Josephina Orton (1805-1873). The Sherbourne Mercury et el reported that Eliza the lady of Robert Hassall Owen of Wyke Regis, gave birth to twins on 25 Sept 1829 at the Rectory Exminister, nr Exeter. ^[2] (In her family, the surname was Owen, then legally changed to become Swaffield and later Owen-Swaffield. Louisa was born an OWEN, in 1840 became SWAFFIELD and then on her marriage became Mrs Lynes)

Marriage

She married the Reverend Robert Francis Lynes on 7 February 1861 in Wyke Regis CofE parish church. ^[3][4] The union was published in various local papers e.g, the Hampshire Chronicle and the Sherborne Mercury . ^{[5] [6] [7]}

Life Story

On the census in 1851, she is living with her paremts and siblings at West Down Lodge in Wyke Regis, Dorset. Her father is a magistrate. ^[8]

In 1861, she and her husband are staying with his parents in Boulton Villa, South Street, Wyke Regis. Her husband is a CofE priest posted as a curate. ^[9]

When the 1871 census was taken they were boarding at 16 Marine Terrace, Penzance, Cornwall (they show up as Lanes not Lynes on the Ancestry.co.uk search). ^[10]

In 1881, she and her husband are still residing at Boulton Villa with two live-in servants. ^[11] In 1891, the census shows they have moved to Wyke Lodge with their two servants. ^[12] They are still there in the 1901 census. ^[13] They have not had any children.

Death

Louisa died 29 December 1904 in Weymouth, Dorset aged 76 years. ^[14] She was buried on 1 January 1905 in Wyke Regis, Weymouth. ^[15].

Her estate was valued at £6036 and sworn to her husband Reverend Robert Francis Lynes of Wyke Lodge, Weymouth on 23 January 1905. ^[16]
