Biography

Uriah was the son of Robert Swain and Hannah Beebe. He was born in 1800 in Sussex County, Delaware.

He was a farmer in Nanticoke Hundred where he married Abigail ("Aby") Day. In 1838, he and his wife sold their share of Hannah Beebe Swain's dower to Uriah's brother James.

In July1842, Uriah was named to a Committee of Vigilance for Nanticoke Hundred by the local Whig party. ^[1]

Uriah died after July, 1842.

Notes

The 1838 land deed from Uriah Swain, Aby Swain, Lemuel Smith, and Priscilla [Swain] Smith to James Swain is a transfer of land that was the dower property of Hannah Swain, widow of Robert Swain, deceased and that they were her heirs. .
