Born Edmund was born in 1822 and baptised on 18 November 1822 in South Normanton [1][2]; transcriptions state Edmond or Edmund Swaine. He is the son of Benjamin Swain and Elizabeth Barratt.
In 1841[3] Edmund (18) "baker" was living together with several other apprentices in the household of Richard Annibale (35) "baker" in Long Row West, St Mary Sherwood Nottingham. Also in the household was Francis Newton (25) "F(amily) S(ervant)".
Marriage Edmund married Francis Newton on 3 November 1844 [4][5].
Edmund and Francis had five children:
In 1851[11] Edmund (29) "bread and biscuit baker" and Francis (36) were living at St Mary's Gate Chesterfield together with their children Samuel (4), Fanny Emma (3) and Kate (3 weeks). Also in the household were Elizabeth Mycroft (57) "visitor/labourer's wife", Matthew Saunders Swain (17) "nephew/baker" and Elizabeth Croft (15) "house servant". Edmund's eldest son, Richard Henry Newton Swain (6) was a visitor in the household of Samuel Cooper (53) "labourer" in Alfreton. Samuel's wife Sarah was Edmund's sister [12].
In 1861[13] Edmund (39) "Horse (or House?) Keeper” and Francis (45) were living in Chorlton upon Medlock, Lancashire together with Samuel (14) "messenger", Kate N (10) "scholar" and Edmund (8) "scholar". Also in the household was William Ketfage (22) “lodger/groom”.
Died Edmund died age 41 in Chorlton Lancashire [14] and was buried in Ardwick Cemetery [15].
