Biography

Born Ann was born in 1833 and baptised on 9 January 1834 ^[1]. She was the daughter of William Swain and Hannah Vardy.

Her mother died in 1836 ^[2]. Her father married Eleanor White a year later ^[3].

In 1841 ^[4] Ann (8) was living in South Normanton with her father William (35) "ag lab", step-mother Eleanor (25) and siblings Hannah (10) and Martha (1).
In 1851 ^[5] Ann (17) "house servant" was registered in the household of her grandfather Benjamin Swain (78) "farmer of 68 acres and one labourer" in South Normanton.

Marriage Ann married James Wilford on 25 March 1856 in South Normanton, Derbyshire ^{[6] [7]}.
Ann and James had five children:

• John James Wilford b1862 ^[10]
• George Henry Wilford b1865 ^[11] d1866 ^[12]

In 1861 ^[14] Ann (27) and James (31) "railway labourer" were living in South Normanton together with their children Hannah (4) and William (1).
In 1871 ^[15] Ann (38) and James (42) "agricultural labourer" were living in Alfreton Park Alfreton together with William Thomas (11) and John James (8).
In 1881 ^[16] Ann (47) "dressmaker" and James (50) "farm labourer" were living in Ball Hill South Normanton together with Hannah Wilford (24) "dressmaker", William Wilford (22) "baker & confectioner", John Wilford (19) "shoe maker", Ann F Wilford (9) "scholar", George H Wilford (4) and Ethel Wilford (6 months). George and Ethel were Hannah's children (father unknown).
In 1891 ^[17] Ann (53) and James (56) were living in Dronfield together with grandson George H Wilford (15) "coal miner".
In 1901 ^[18] Ann (67) and James (70) "general farm labourer" were living at 71 Sheffield Road Dronfield.

James died age 76 in 1906 ^[19].

In 1911 ^[20] Ann (78) was living with her granddaughter Ellen (27), who was married to Bertram Ford (29) "groom / gardener (domestic)", together with their two small children Gertrude (3) and Margaret (2).

Died Ann died age 81 in 1915 ^[21].
