Biography
Joan was born on 4 October 1913 and was baptised on 18 October 1913 at Verulam, Natal[1]. She was the daughter of Harry Evelyn Swales and Olive Miriam Essery. Her father was an Estate Manager of Inanda.
Sadly her father Harry died on 15 November 1918 at the age of 36.
She married Geoffrey Ward. They had at least one child.
