Fifer Timothy Swan served with Massachusetts Line during the American Revolution.

Timothy was born in 1758. He was the son of William Swan and Lavinia Keyes. He passed away in 1842.

Timothy Swan was an American hatter, merchant, poet, and composer of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.

In 1774, Swan enl­isted in the Con­ti­nent­al Ar­my in Cam­bridge, Mass­a­chu­setts. It was here he learned to play fife un­der the tu­te­lage of a Bri­tish fif­er.

He contributed psalm-tunes to compilations from 1783, and published his own New England Harmony in 1801.

He married Mary Gay in 1784 and settled in Suffield CT, later moving to Northfield MA.

Af­ter pub­lish­ing the New Eng­land Har­mo­ny, Swan moved to Ver­mont, then to North­field, Mass­a­chu­setts.
