Biography

Birth and Parents

Samuel, the tenth son and youngest of eleven children of Thomas Swan and Elizabeth Bosworth was born on 18 October 1801 at Bristol, Rhode Island.[1]

Marriage and Children

Samuel married Hannah Gifford (1806-1883), the daughter of Ephraim and Ruth (Hall) Gifford on 9 February 1823 at Bristol, Rhode Island.[2]They had six children born at Bristol, Rhode Island:

  1. Samuel Osborn Swan (b. 15 Mar 1823; d. 29 Oct 1905, Bristol, RI),[3][4]
  2. Mary Hall Swan (b. 7 Mar 1825; d. ),[5]
  3. William Pearse Swan (b. 4 Sep 1826; d. 9 Dec 1852, Bristol, RI),[6]
  4. Hannah Church Swan (b. 12 Apr 1828; d. ),[7]
  5. Ruth Ann Swan (b. 1834; d. ),
  6. Charles Howard Swan (b. Jan 1838 ; d. 25 Mar 1915, Providence, RI),[8] m. 19 Dec 1861 at Providence, RN, Maria E. Fanning [9]

Death and Burial

Samuel Swan died on 13 November 1863 in his 62nd year at Bristol and is buried in the North Burial Ground at Bristol, Bristol, Rhode Island.[10]
