Biography

Nathaniel was born on January 9, 1769, in Fryeburg, Maine. He was the son of James Swan and Mary Smith, who later moved to Bethel, Maine.[1]

Nathaniel married Mehitable Colby of Sutton, Massachusetts. They resided in Bethel, Maine, and had the following children:[2]

  • Esther Parker, born July 2, 1798; died December 11, 1800
  • Joseph Greeley, born March 22, 1808; married Mary (Adams) Burnham
  • Esther, born December 31, 1801; married Hazen Koech
  • Julia, born February 13, 1804; married Ransom Twitchell
  • Jonathan, born May 14, 1806
  • Abigail, born March 20, 1808
  • Joshua G., born January 8, 1814; married Julia Goodenow
  • Huldah, married Moses Twitchell
  • Mehitable, born November 10, 1819

He died on January 2, 1856. He is buried in Riverside Cemetery in Bethel.[3]
