Biography

On January 24, 1720, at the Saint Barnabas Church, in Queen Anne Parish, Prince George's county, Maryland, John Swan married Elizabeth Green(e), as her second husband. [1] Elizabeth's first husband, John Foster had died, leaving four sons: John, Richard, Thomas and Hugh Foster. John died about 1727. [2]

On December, 1722, John Swan purchased two tracts of land from Samuel Evans Evans-6365 and his first wife, Sarah, in Prince George's county, Maryland. One tract was part of an estate known as "Evans Range" and the other was "Swan's Delight." On September 5, 1768, Samuel Evans and his second wife, Priscilla, sold the other part of "Evans Range," (200 acres) to Thomas Foster, who was John's step son.

John and Elizabeth are the parents of two children:

  • John Swan, born May 1721, married Elizabeth Lucas and established Jefferson Township in what would become Greene county, Pennsylvania [3]
  • Comfort Swan, born July 5, 1725, in Queen Anne Parish, Prince George's county, Maryland, married Arthur Thompson [4]
