Biography

Delilah was born in 1833. She passed away in 1917.

Daughter of Christian & Esther (Goss) Swanger. Three of their daughters married Beaver Brothers.

Delilah's siblings include: Amelia Swanger, Elmira Swanger, Catharine Swanger, Promelia Swanger, Louisa Swanger, and Robert Swanger, Ervin Spencer Swanger, James Oliver Swanger.

Henry Beaver married Elmira Swanger; Frederick Beaver married Promelia Swanger; and Peter Beaver married Delilah Swanger.

Delilah's obituary reads: "Last week the Home News briefly mentioned the death of a pioneer mother, Mrs. Delilah Beaver, widow of Peter Beaver, a sturdy old patriot who fought in both the Mexican and Civil wars. Mrs. Beaver had been slightly indisposed for several days but was feeling quite well on the day of her death which occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Max Gunlach, Tuesday afternoon, December 11, 1917 at 3 o'clock. At dinner that day, she was jolly and after the meal picked up her little great gradchild saying she would rock the baby to sleep. Instead, she fell into the last long sleep with the child clasped in her arms. She closed her life work at the age of 84 years 2 months and 8 days.

Delilah Swanger was born October 3rd, 1833 in (Beavertown)Union county Pennsylvania and married Peter Beaver in 1848. In 1851, they moved to Wisconsin locating to Columbia county and in 1861 moved to the homestead north of Spring Green.

Fifteen children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Beaver, eleven of whom grew to man and womanhood. Eight of the children are now living: Christian, Vernon county; Jefferson, Menomonie; John, Baraboo; Thomas, Cedar Falls; Mrs. Delilah Lewis, Richland county; Mrs. Alda Gundlach; Mrs. Louisa Hutter, Spring Green; and Mrs. Sophia Snyder, Spring Green. All were present at the funeral. Beside the children, Mrs. Beaver is survivied by three brothers, a sister-in-law, fifty-nine grandchildren, and thirty-six great-grandchildren. Mr. Beaver died twenty-three years ago last March.

The funeral was held at the Congregational church in this village Friday afternoon. Rev A. H. Schoenfeld of Dodgeville officiating and internment was made in the Spring Green cemetery."
