Samuel was born Oct 31 1704. His parents were Samuel Swann and his 2nd wife Elizabeth (Lillington) Fendall. [1] He was born at his father's plantation in Perquimans Precinct, North Carolina. Samuel was the namesake of his deceased brother, Samuel that had died in 1702, as well as his father.[2]
When Samuel was about three, his father died. His mother remarried twice and moved to the Cape Fear region with her 3rd husband Maurice Moore, but Samuel remained in Perquimans, probably living in the family plantation, which his father had left to him, in his will, after his mother's death. [2]
Samuel was the most prominent of his father's children. He served in he Assembly for almost forty years and was speaker for nearly twenty, retiring in 1762. He spent his early life in Perquimans but moved to New Hanover County about 1731[1] [2]
About 1727 Swann married Jane Jones, he eldest daughter of Frederick Jones, a former chief justice of the colony and his wife Jane. [1] [2]
Samuel Swann had 2 children: [2]
He passed away Feb or Mar 1774, survived by his wife Jane, a son Samuel, and a daughter Jane. [1]
This profile had a birth date of 1680 and death date of 7 Feb 1760, that was unsourced. Samuel's father had 3 children named Samuel and the dates are a mixture of dates seen on the profiles and in the North Carolina Dictionary source. The 3rd Samuel is the one that had a daughter named Jane, probably after his wife's name.
