When Samuel was about three, his father died. His mother remarried twice and moved to the Cape Fear region with her 3rd husband Maurice Moore, but Samuel remained in Perquimans, probably living in the family plantation, which his father had left to him, in his will, after his mother's death. [2]

Samuel was the most prominent of his father's children. He served in he Assembly for almost forty years and was speaker for nearly twenty, retiring in 1762. He spent his early life in Perquimans but moved to New Hanover County about 1731[1] [2]

About 1727 Swann married Jane Jones, he eldest daughter of Frederick Jones, a former chief justice of the colony and his wife Jane. [1] [2]

Swann-1519 and Swann-1513 appear to represent the same person because: part of duplicated family, duplicated father and child, dates do not match sources, dates and mother changed on Swann-1513 since Samuel that was born in 1681 died 1702 before Samuel b 1704 was born. That Samuel later had children, which previously born Samuel did not.
