"Funeral services for Charles H. Swanner, a former carpenter for a shipbuilding firm, will be held today. Mr. Swanner, who was 71, died at Union Memorial Hospital early Saturday after a brief illness.
Born in Long Green, MD., he came to Baltimore as a child. He was the first volunteer from Highlandtown to enlist in the Army during World War I. He served in France, fighting in the Meuse-Argonne.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary Simms Swanner; three daughters, Mrs. Helen Sevec and Mrs. Katherine D'Annunzio, and Miss Mary E. Swanner; two sons, William H. Swanner and Robert P. Swanner, and five grandchildren. Burial in Baltimore National Cemetery."[4]
