Obediah Bryant Richardson Swanner was born on January 10, 1826. He was the sixth known child of Joel Swanner and Letty Bryant. Obediah was named after both of his grandfathers.
He married Ruth Ellen Barnes on October 9, 1844, in Lincoln, Tennessee. They had four confirmed sons together. Obediah was a farmer his entire life.
During the Civil War, Obediah enlisted into Company F, 44th Consolidated Tennessee Infantry.
He later left Ruth and married Almelia Catherine Hamby on January 16, 1876, in Maury County, Tennessee. It is unknown whether his youngest son, Harvey, is the son of Obediah and Ruth or Obediah and Almelia, or if he is even Obediah's son at all.
By 1892, Obediah had left Almelia or became widowed and married Martha Ann Dugger on February 16. She later died in 1893. He then married Amanda Fitzallen Downing on November 7, 1895.
Obediah passed away about 1905.
