Saari, Betty J. (Swanson) Age 84, of Edina, MN (formerly of Golden Valley, MN) passed away on November 16, 2014, just 24 days after her devoted husband, Arnie, to whom she was married for 61 years. Betty is also preceded in death by her mother, Elsie and her grand-father, Julius, who raised her along with his wife Mary. She is survived by sisters-in-law, Ruth (Arnold) Sunnarborg and Elaine (Orville) Bierman, and many nieces and nephews. Betty was born in New York Mills in 1930 and graduated from New York Mills High School in 1948. She attended Moorhead State Teachers College in Moorhead, MN and received her B.S. degree in Elementary Education from the University of Wisconsin in River Falls. Betty had the gift of working with young children and taught in Sebeka, Cloquet, North St. Paul, and Robbinsdale Area Schools - at Adair, Lee School, and Crystal Heights. She retired in 1985. She loved teaching first graders and they loved her. Betty was never far from her beloved husband Arnie, and together they enjoyed travel, living in Savannah and Seattle, and spending time in the great outdoors. The family wishes to thank the caregivers at N.C. Little Hospice and Edina Park Plaza for their dedication and loving care of Betty. Funeral Service 11:00 AM on Friday, November 21 at Washburn-McReavy Glen Haven Funeral Chapel, 5125 W. Broadway Ave., Crystal, MN 55429, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Apostolic Lutheran Church - North, 6630 Colfax Avenue N., Brooklyn Center, MN 55430.[1]
