The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Clinton Chapel, Snell Zornig Funeral Home for Harold "Pete"Swanson, 82,of 20l N. 4th St., who died Wednesday at Samaritan North.
The Rev. Jeffrey Bowersock, formly of Gateway Baptist Church, will officiate. Visitation will be from 3 to 9p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be Clinton Memorial Park Cemetery where the Clinton and Miles American Legion will conduct military honors.
Pallbearers will be Bill Fugate, Larry Hagen, Robert Riedesel, Sammy Samson, Norm Adams and Si Andersen.
Mr. Swanson was born July 7, 1909, in Clinton to Carl A. and Estella Werner Swanson. He married Bernice Dague Fugate, Dec.18,1964, in Rock Island.
He was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945. He served in the Southwest Pacific Theater where he received the Good Conduct Medal and the Philippines Ribbon with one Bronze Star.
He was employed at Central Steel and Tube in Camanche as a machine operator for more than 26 years retiring in 1976. He also operated a sign painting business at his home for several years.
He was a former member of V.F.W., AMVETS and Moose Lodge. He enjoyed music, especially the guitar, banjo and fiddle.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Larry (Elaine "Laney") Laird of Melrose Park, Ill; a granddaughter; three great grandchildren, a sister Nel Daley of Clinton.
He was proceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
