Biography

Gertruida Johanna was born in Rouxville, Orange Free State in 1858; she was the daughter of Pieter Johannes Swart and Jacoba Catharina Maria (Groenewald) Swart.

She was only 16 years of age and resident at Schoorsteenberg when she married a 19-year-old livestock farmer Frederik Theodorus Scholtz from Bronkhorstfontein in the Smithfield NG Church on 8 March 1875.^[1]

Frederik died in 1879; the 21-year-old widow married 20 year old Cornelis Hermanus Olivier in Smithfield on 19 July 1880.^[2]
