Taking Swayze as the last name from Swayze (Sweezey).
Israel moved his family from L.I. to New Jersey around 1745. Buried in the Swayze Cemetery in Sussex Co. I have a source that also lists a 'Joshua', Joseph, and Elizabeth as children of Israel and Elizabeth. I will look for confirmation. I have a second source that lists a Joseph as a child, but no dates are mentioned. The confusion is that he married twice and had two large families, I am not sure which children belong to which wife.Israel Swayze, farmer, (Samuel4, Joseph3,John2,John1) bapt in Southhold, Long Island, New York Oct 11, 1720, d. Hope, New Jersey. m1? m2Elisabeth Seward. He is buried in the Swayze Cemetery at Hope..inscription "In memory of Israel Swayze, who was born on Long Island and moved with his father to Roxbury in Morris County, and from thence to Hope, Sussex Co. Died August 27, 1774, aged 53 years. 1 month."Buried in the Swayze Family Burying Ground, Hope, Warren County, NJ.On 19 September 1774, Andrew Whitesell and Richard Shackleton made inventory in the total about of ?775.8.2 of the estate of Israel Swayze of Oxford, Sussex County, New Jersey. In that will are named, Israel's sons, Obadiah and Israel, Daughter, Mary, Wife of Silas Hobkins, daughter Mehittabel, wife of Peter Hobkins, daughter Susannah, wife of Thomas Dunn, and wife Elizabeth. Also sons, Joshua, Caleb, James and Jacob Swayze. Executors were wife Elizabeth and son Joshua. Witnesses were Andrew Whitesell, Archibald Stinson. The will was proved 29 September 1774.Israel and his brother Barnabas were the first to move to Hope, Warren County, and start that branch of the Swayze family. Another researcher sent me a biography on one of Israel's descendants, and in this biography, there is a rather detailed genealogy starting with Judge Samuel Swayze. One problem is that this 'biography' only lists son Joshua, Caleb, Jacob and James as sons of Israel. And claims they were born in that order. It is also as if this biographer is only listing children from spouse Elizabeth Seward, and not acknowledging a marriage to Mary Pitney and their children. No mention of sons Israel Jr. or Obadiah. But according to the transcript of his Will, sons Obadiah and Israel are also sons of Israel. Maybe Joshua, Caleb, Jacob and James are from his second wife.
