Selma Sally Ottilia Maria was born in Sandslätt, Högsby parish, Kalmar county, Sweden on May 3, 1863 and was christened on May 10, 1863. Her parents are listed as "lanthandlaren" Eric Cedergren and his wife Anna Sophia Petersdotter (age 28).[1]
The family moved to Oskarshamn in 1865.
It would seem that she had at least five siblings. This is the family, as listed in the household book for Oskarshamn parish 1869-1875[2];
Father: f.d. lanthandlaren Eric Cedergren, b. 1831-04-01in Mörlunda parish.
Mother: Anna Sofia Petersdotter, b. 1834-06-03 in Högsby parish.
Children;
Hilda Sofia, b. 1856-04-18
Anna Josefina, b. 1859-09-20
Amanda Christina, b. 1861-07-07
Selma Sally Ottilia Maria, b. 1863-05-03
Emeli Charlotta, b. 1867-04-24
Carl Robert, b. 1869-11-23
Selma leaves home 1879-10-14 with destination "Amerika". In the moving record (post 139) she is listed as Selma Sally Ottilia Cedergren.[3]
There seem to be some disagreement in the archive posts at emiweb.se whether she left for North America 1871 or 1879. It is, however, only her older sister Hilda Sophia Cedergren who leaves home for North America in 1871 according to the moving records for Oskarshamn parish.[4]

Since research has been done on her father, indicating that he adopted Cedergren as a family name in the 1850s, and Selma Sally Ottilia was born in 1863 her Last Name at Birth should be Cedergren.
At this time, when a family name exists, it is not necessary to also give her a patronymic name, Eriksdotter. Patronymics were being phased out. The Eriksdotter name only needs to be mentioned if it appears in a primary source.
