Biography

Shubael Sweet was born in 1779 at Ardoise Hill, Hants County, Nova Scotia. He was the son of Benoni Sweet and Lydia Dimmock.

He married Amelia Fish about 1817 in Hants County, Nova Scotia. They had six children:

  1. Lydia Sweet (b. 27 Mar 1818)
  2. Isaac Benoni Sweet (b. abt 1819)
  3. Hannah Sweet (b. abt 1823)
  4. Eber G Sweet (b. 1824)
  5. Hester Caroline Sweet (b. 15 Nov 1833)
  6. Margaret Matilda Sweet (b. abt 1834)

In 1817, Shubael was residing in Newport with 1 male between 16 and 50 [himself] and 2 women [Amelia, his wife, ?], total 3 in the family.

In 1838, Shubael, yeoman, was residing in Newport with 1 female under six years [Hester],1 male under fourteen years of age [Eber], 2 females under fourteen years of age [Hannah, ?], 1 male above fourteen years of age [Isaac or Shubael] and 3 females above fourteen years of age [Lydia, ?, Amelia, his wife], total 9 in family including himself.

Shubael wrote his Last Will and Testament in Newport, Hants County on 15 Mar 1845, leaving bequests to his wife Amelia, children Isaac Benoni, Lydia Ann, Hannah, Hester Caroline, Margaret Malinda and Eber Glover. Shubael Junior was one of the witnesses to the will, which was probated 21 Apr 1845.

Shubael Sweet died 13 March 1845 at Scotch Village, Hants County, Nova Scotia. He is buried in the Scotch Village Century Cemetery.
