Biography

Absalom is either the son of Dutton Sweeting or his brother Edward Sweeting who married Ruth Trotten. The evidence for his being a son of Edward is not conclusive; however, Edward had a son named Dutton Sweeten/Sweeton/Sweeting who also resided in Clay County, Kentucky by 1817. Edward and Dutton Sweeting had a sister Sarah Sweeting b ca 1741 who married Abel Pennington, who witnessed an indenture made by Absolom and Hannah Sweeten (see below).

Absolum was born in 1761. Born in: Clay County, Kentucky, however, Kentucky did not exist until 1792.

He was in Clay County, Kentucky, by 1810. Absalom Sweeten is there with 2 males under 10, one 10-16, one 16-26, 3 females under 10, 1 female 16-26. Following Absalom is Lane Sweeten with one male 26-45. page 15 Absalom 2-1-1-0-0; 3-0-1-0-0; Lane 00010 [1]

1820 Census, Clay County, Kentucky: Absolum Sweeten 2 males under 10, 1 male age 10-16, 1 male age 16-26, one male over age 45; 1 female under 10, 2 females 10-16, one female 26-45.[2]

He resided in Perry County, Kentucky in 1827. By 1830 he was in Montgomery County, Indiana.

"Taken up, by Absalom Sweeton, living in Clark Township, Montgomery County, Indiana, two estrays," Advertisement in the Crawfordsville Record, Crawfordsville, Indiana, appearing 28 June, 26 July and 16 August 1834.[3]

Absalom is not found in the U.S. Census after 1830. The Absalom residing in Missouri in the 1850 and 1860 Censuses is his son, born about 1822.

Research Notes

"This indenture made and entered into this 3rd day of September one thousand eight hundred and twenty seven between Absolom Sweeten and Hannah his wife of the County Perry and State of Kentuky . . . . Witnesses: Abel Pennington and Jesse Boling." Abel Pennington was the husband of Sarah Sweeting (Sarah was b 1741), daughter of Robert Sweeting and Sarah Lane. He may have been Absolom's uncle.[4]

Sweeten-98 and Sweeton-4 appear to represent the same person because: At this time the surname varied between Sweeting, Sweeton and Sweeten. Absolom or Absolum has the same spouse (Hannah) and his son William has the same spouse (Delilah Riley). The duplicate profiles of Absolom need to be merged first, and then the duplicate Williams and the duplicate Delilahs.
I added parents of Absolum as Edward Sweeting and Ruth Trotten because their son Dutton also went to Clay County, Kentucky. Absolum is either a son of Edward and Ruth or he is a son of Dutton Sweeten b ca 1733.
