Biography

Azuba Lovina (Swick) Smith was born on 20 Jul 1844 in Hector, Tompkins, New York, youngest child of John Alonzo Swick (1804 - 1901) and Maria Sarah Fulkerson (1806 - 1888).

Her family moved to Wilson, Niagara, NY before the 1850 census, recorded just below her grandparents John [Martin] Swick age 87 and Magdaline [Covert] age 80. [1]

Azuba married William Harrison Smith (1844 - 1899) on 28 Mar 1864 while he was still enlisted in the civil war. Their children include:[2]

  2. Frank, b. 1867. Died as infant.
  3. Burt Van Horn Smith, b. Sep. 7,1867. d. In. June 11,1874 Edith Hillman. Adopted
  4. "Nettie" Henrietta Maria, b. Oct. 10,1868, Richfield, MI. (1. 1921. m. Marshall Capen at Lockport NY.
  5. Willie Swick, b. Dec. 11,1872, Richfield, M]. d. Oct. 23,1933 at Flint, MI. m. Dec.19,1895, to Nettie Ann Worden, Davison, MI.
  6. Emma, b. Feb. 21,1874, Richfield, MI. (d. 1890, age 16 yrs. Died of heart damage from diptheria.
  7. Effie Lovisa, b. June 25,1877, Richfield, MI. (1. Oct. 26,1960. m. Dec. 27,1899 Sumner Stacy, Wilson, NY.
  8. Nellie Pearl, b. Sep. 15,1879, Richfield, M]. d. 1895 in Nebraska of infantile paralysis. Age 16 years.

No birth or marriage records have been found, but family records state her birth was 20 July 1844 and Marriage 28 Mar 1864.

Azuba died on 5 Feb 1933 in Wilson, Niagara, New York aged 88. She is buried in Richfield Union Cemetery, Davison, Michigan.[3]
