Biography

Daniel was born in 1764. Daniel Swickard ... He passed away in 1849. [1]

In 1780, Virginia Granted Daniel Swickard a Preemption Warrant of 400 acres of land in Yohogania County, Virginia, a tract of land located in present-day southwestern Pennsylvania (Washington County, Pennsylvania). It was an area that was disputed by Virginia and Pennsylvania from about 1775/76 until about 1782 when Virginia finally relinquished all claims to the disputed area. While the original warrant was granted by Virginia, once the dispute was settled Pennsylvania decided to go ahead and honor those warrants granted by Virginia prior to the date of the resolution of the dispute. So in the end the land was actually granted to Daniel Swickard in 1788 by Pennsylvania.[2]
