Charles 1776-1855 was the first Swift to migrate to the Northwest territory in 1800. He came from Barnard, VT with his father in law Thomas Wells White.

He was the son of Whitfield Swift and Pheobe Shays.
Charles Swift was married three times, the father of ten children.
1st marriage was to: Susanna White, daughter of Thomas Wells White & Naomi Wright White; Susanna Swift b. 28 Dec 1778 d. 28 Oct 1825. They were married 03 Jun 1796 Braintree, Worcester Co., MA & were the parents of ten children:

• Whitfield Swift 19 Oct 1799-1818
• Phebe Swife 06 Oct 1801
• Fanny Swift 18 Jun 1806
• Charles Swift Jr., 27 Aug 1807-1873
• Eunice Swift 1821
• Ira Swift 20 May 1811
• Guy Swift 14 Apr 1813-1881
• Lyman Swift 13 Dec 1815
• Mary Swift 03 Oct 1817
• Rufus Swift 19 May 1820

Note from wikitree email: "What I am still looking for is "written proof" as to the parents of Charles Swift b:1776. All of my research leads to Whitfield Swift and Phoebe Shays being his parents. I have not found a death or burial record for Whitfield or Phoebe. I also have not found a birth record for Charles. Whitfield seems to have had 3 sons: Daniel Shays Swift b:1783, Calvin Swift b: 1784 (my ggg grandfather) and Charles Swift b: 1776."
