Biography

Charles Henry Baskerville Swift (known as Harry) was born on 13 Oct 1880 at 7 Rockfield Rd, Walton on Hill, Lancashire[1]. He is the son of John Henry Swift (abt.1851-) and Annie Louisa (Buxton) Swift (abt.1855-). Both parents are named on his birth certificate along with his father's occupation of accountant.

In the 1881 census he appears age 5 months living with his parents John Hy and "Hannah L" at the same address[2].

In the 1891 census he is recorded age 10 living with his parents John H and Annie L and younger brother Sydney B at 30 Cecil Road, Litherland, West Derby, Lancashire[3].

In the 1901 census he is recorded as age 20 living with his parents John and Annie and younger brother Sydney at Claremont House, 109 Claremont Road, Seaforth[4], near the docks in Liverpool. His occupation is listed as Timber Salesman, presumably in his father's Timber Merchant business.

He married Eveline Sophia May (Quant) Swift (abt.1875-abt.1958) on 4th July 1906 in the Wesleyan Chapel, Gladstone Road, Seaforth, Lancashire[5]. The marriage certificate records him as a bachelor aged 25 working as a timber salesman and living at Claremont House, Claremont Road, Seaforth. His father is recorded as John Henry Swift, Timber Merchant. It was witnessed by Sydney B Swift (his brother) and Charles Buxton.

In 1907 the birth of his daughter Evelyn May (Swift) Wardle (1907-1991) was registered at 7 Cambridge Drive, Great Crosby with his occupation listed as Timber Merchants Salesman[6].

In the 1911 census he is recorded under the name Harry still living at this address with his wife May and daughters Evelyn and Dorothy [7].

At some point, possibly after this date, the family lived at "Sarepta", 21 College Road North, Great Crosby[8].
