Biography

This profile is part of the St Helens, Lancashire One Place Study.

Mary Swift was christened on 19 Nov 1837 at the church of St Mary the Virgin in Prescot, Lancashire. She was the daughter of William and Rachel Swift. Her father's occupation was recorded as miner, and the family's address as Eccleston.

By June 6th 1841, the family were living in Tithe Barn House, Eccleston. William was working as a collier. As well as William and Rachel and their three children, a collier named Joseph Chorley was in the household - probably a boarder or lodger, possibly some kind of relation.
