John was born about 1392.^[1] He was the son and heir of Roger Swillington^[1] and Joan daughter of Robert Nevill of Hornby, knight.^[2]

He married Joan Loudham.^[3]

John died on 2 April 1418.^[2] His next heir of blood was his sister Margaret wife of John Gra, knight.^[2]
