Biography
Claire was born 19 Aug 1904, in Lafontaine, Wilson Co., Kansas. [1] His parents were Martin Christian Swinney (1859–1944) and Purlina Rosetta (Hampton) Swinney (1860–1932). There were also five brothers and sisters in the family.
He moved to Deland, Florida, then to Gulport, Florida. Mr. Swinney became the superintendent of maintenance of Stetson Law School in Tampa Bay, Florida.
He married Jewel Vaughan.They had at least two children, a son Thomas and daughter Judy.
Claire Marion Swinney passed away in 1979. He was buried at the Woodlawn Memory Gardens in Saint Petersburg, Pinellas County, Florida, USA.

SWINNEY, CLAIRE M., 74, of 6114 12th Ave. S. Gulfport, died Wednesday (Feb 21 1979). Born in Kansas, he came here in 1954 from DeLand and was retired superintendent of maintenance of Stetson Law School. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church was St. John's Masonic Lodge No. 37 F & AM, DeLand. Survivors include his wife Jewel; a son, Thomas A, Hawaii; a daughter, Judy Crouch, Gulfport; a sister, Lois Brooks, Osteen and three grandchildren. Robert D Easter Funeral Home, Gulfport.
