Biography

John Switzer died in Newtown, Abbeyleix on 4 June 1875.[1] The death was registered by Lizzie Switzer.

Note: Hello Nita!I think I'm your English missing link!!(I'm a little cross cos I've just written a nice long e-mail to you, but it somehow got lost in cyberspace when I posted it, so this is my second attempt and I will try and remember what I've just written!!)Here we go:I think my Granny's grandmother, Gertrude Switzer was a sister of your Anna Switzer. I'hm almost certain that Gertrude's parents were John Switzer and Mary Anne Ringwood. John Switzer (1787-1876) was a farmer and was known as John of Queens County. His parents were John Switzer and Ann (or Nancy) Ryan. He was one of 14 children (3 from his father's first marriage (Mary Sparrow)and 11from his second (Ann Ryan - poor lass!)There's loads of info in this forum, (the Tipperary Switzers are the "important" ones, not the Limerick ones!!!) and there are even a few books written about these Switzers.Gertrude Switzer(1819-1895) married John Pepper Rich in 1848 and had 7 children: Marianne, Anne Elizabeth (my ggrandmother), Gertrude, John P, Rebecca, Rachel Emma, and Mark Ringwood.Your Anna Switzer also had John S (your ancestor...what did the "S" stand for? Was it Switzer?) Mary Anne, Gertrude, Elizabeth, Rebecca and Rachel, along with her other children. Gertrude Switzer's youngest son was Mark Ringwood, her oldest daughter Marianne (or Mary Anne) and her father was John Switzer. These are some of the reasons why I think that her parents were John Switzer and Mary Anne Ringwood. Have you by a chance come across any Ringwoods as a middle name?I recently got a microfilm tape from the Mormon centre (Hold on a second - I'm being interrupted by my two little monkeys who want me to blow up a balloon!)which had the Marriage Licence Bonds from the Diocese of Ossary (covers most of Kilkenny and half of Laois (Queens County))from 1641-1845. I'll give you the Switzer Marriages:John Switzer m Mary Anne Ringwood in 1810John Ringwood Switzer m Elizabeth Townsend in 1843Joseph Switzer m Margaret Smeltzer in 1790Martin Switzer m Mary Maurice in 1803Samuel Switzer m Anne Ballard in 1825John Switzer m Mary Taylor in 1825Anne Switzer m Fossey Tackaberry in 1841Eleanor Switzer m George Warren in 1836That last one, Eleanor Switzer, wonder if she was another sister....Anne Tackaberry had a daughter called Eleanor, didn't she?The siblings of Gertrude, who I think I've found so far are John Ringwood Switzer (1811-1887), Rebecca, Rachel, Elizabeth, your Anne and possibly the above Eleanor. I've got the marriage certificates of Gertrude, Rebecca, Rachel and Elizabeth and they all lived in a place called Farrenmurry (spelt different ways), in Johnstown, parish of Fertagh, County Kilkenny at the time they were married. If I'm right about Gertrude and Anne being sisters, that means we're 4th cousins, neat...huh!!I got some of the info about Anne Tackaberry from your e-mails and also from the Ancestral file in Family Search submitted by a Nina Ruth Stilwell. Do you know who she is? I wonder how she knew the exact birthdate of Anne Switzer, ie 15/91814 and why she was called Anna Savitzer (perhaps the "W" was mistaken for "AV"!) Do you know any more about the Switzers? If we can find some birth certificates and the marriage certificate of your Anne Switzer, we'll be well on our way!!Hope to hear from you soon - you should be up by now!!Tanya.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
