Aloysius was born in the Alsace region of France, in Pfetterhouse, where the last name is usually written as SCHWOB. He was born August 28, 1810. Not only that, he had a twin brother. But unfortunately, the brother died 6 months later. After his father died, Aloysius and his mother came to America between 1831 and 1834. He married Mary Noel in 1838 and they had eight children. He passed away in 1879.

He stated he intended to give them the first names of Aloyse and Joseph Antoine Aloyse. The mentioned declaration and presentation was made in the presence of Joseph Schlier, farmer, 32 years old, and of Jean Amen, 58 years old. Source: S126 p120 His(Joseph Swope) wife was Mary Gerber, who also was a native of Alsace. After the death of her husband she continued to live in Alsace nearly twenty years, and then in company with her only son, Aloysius, came to America, settled in Allegheny township, Cambria county, Pennsylvania, and died there in the year 1857. Her brother, Frank Gerber, came to America with Lafayette and his army and fought with the Continental forces during the revolution until the famous battle of Yorktown, when he was killed.
