Will of James Dodds: In the name of God, Amen

I, James Dodds of Forward Township, in the County of Butler, and State of Pennsylvania, being of sound mind and memory, and considering the uncertainty of this frail and transitory life, do therefore make, ordain, publish and declare this to be my last Will and Testament. That is to say, First, After all my lawful debts are paid and discharged, the residue of my estate real and personal, I give, bequeath and dispose of as follows: To my beloved wife, the use of all my real and personal estate as now owned by me during the term of her natural life. After her decease, either to be sold or disposed of in such a way as may best suit the heirs. Should my real and personal estate at my wife’s death be worth four thousand dollars, I give and bequeath to my four sons, Solomon, Cornelius, William Purviance, James Alexander each seven hundred dollars. And to my four daughters, Mary Ann, Elizabeth, Margaret Reese & Sarah each three hundred dollars. And should my estate be valued above or below this aforesaid amount, I will that it be divided acording to the same ratio as already willed to my children.

Likewise, I make, constitute and appoint my two sons, Solomon and Cornelius to be executors of this my last Will and Testament.

Burial: White Oak Springs Presbyterian Cemetery, Renfrew, Butler County, Pennsylvania. [2] Inscription: Susannah, wife of James Dodds, DIED Nov 12, 1862.
