Biography

Nathaniel Silvester was born in 1718. He was the son of Amos Silvester and Elizabeth Henchman.[1]

Nathaniel passed away in 1781. He is buried in the Church Hill Cemetery in Norwell, Plymouth County, Massachusetts, USA.[2]

Nathaniel Sylvester was a slaveholder. He enslaved a Black couple named Newport and Kate who were married in 1760.[3]

Probate

The will of Nathaniel Silvester of Hanover was dated 5 December 1780 with a codicil dated 31 January 1781 and proved on 8 March 1781 in Plymouth. He mentions his children, Nathaniel, Elijah, the four children of Sage Josselyn, decd., the children of Mary Meyrick (Mary and Sally), Lucy Bailey, Eunice Stetson, Lydia, and Sally. He appointed his friend Jeremiah Stetson to be executor. [4]

His inventory was taken on 3 April 1781 in Hanover. His real estate was divided between his two sons, Nathaniel and Elijah.[5]

In 1781, Jeremiah Stetson of Pembroke was appointed guardian of his son children, Elijah Stetson, age 13 years.[6] In 1790, his daughter Sarah, above the age of 14 years, made the choice of Nathaniel Sylvester of Hanover to be her guardian.[7]
