Frederick was born on 26 Jun 1846 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. [Findagrave, his death certificate, and the Pennsylvania records for burial have his actual birthdate. The Census records are wildly off on ages]. He was the son of Frederick Joseph Sylvester and Sarah Houston. [He is recorded as their son in their 1850, 1860, and 1870 Census records]. He was baptized on 17 Oct 1847. The baptismal record also state he was born on 26 Jun 1846.
The 1850 Census shows him at home in Philadelphia Locust Ward with his parents and 5 siblings at age 3. It also says his birth year is abt. 1847 which is one year late; he should be 4.

On 19 Oct 1976, he married Eleanor Stockton at St. Luke's Church by Rev Currie in Bryn Mawr, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The church later changed its name to Church of the Redeemer. There was an announcement in the Philadelphia Inquirer on 20 Oct 1876 that stated on the 19 instance by the Rev. Charles G. Currie, Frederick Sylvester to miss Ella Stockton.

On 31 Dec 1892, Frederick Sylvester and Bro. sold John Wanamaker 1226 Market Street for $160,000.
