Rev Zechariah Symmes, Jr.

He was the son of Rev. Zecharia Symmes, Sr (April 1599- Jan.1670), who was a graduate of Emmanuel College Cambridge, Eng. Zechariah, Sr. wed Sarah Baker in 1622 and they emigrated to Massachusetts from Kent, England on the ship Griffin with their seven children in Aug. 1634.
When Rev. Zechariah Symmes, Sr. died in Charlestown, "he was honorably interred at the expense of the town." His grave was "covered and set comelie" by a stone-work laid in lime, together with a tomb-stone, procured by the selectmen of the town. The epitaph, which has been wholly effaced by the ravages of time, contained the following lines:
Graduating from Harvard College in 1657, Zechariah, Jr., married Susanna Graves on Nov. 18, 1669 in Charlestown. They had 7 children before her death in 1681. In 1683, he married Mehitable Palmer Dalton, widow of Samuel Dalton.
