Birth - This date is deduced from the burial record. However, no christening has been found to match this, other than an extracted IGI entry at Probus (which is only two parishes away from St Enoder) on 12.2.1704, to father Charles Simmons. The IGI does have two extracted records of christenings in St Columb Minor in 1699. One of these is likely to be the John who married Barbara Martyn there in 1727 (and had three daughters there), but the other could be this John. The fathers were John and Thomas, so the latter would be consistent with the naming of his first child. (There is also one at St Columb Major in 1704/5, but he is recorded as having died a day or two later). There are three indistinct christening entries at St Enoder 1686-9 (Richard, Walter, Jane) to parents William Symons and Elizabeth.
