Biography

It is thought the John of this biography descends from John Simonett, an early settler and that he married Sarah Pinder, likely https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Pinder-215.

Lending credence to John's relationship with the Pinder family is the fact that on 17 July 1765, Sarah's (assumed) brother John served as witness when John sold his property (land and an enslaved woman) in New Providence to John Ferquhson (Farquhson?). The property was sold for 500 pieces of eight and it was "situated westward of the home where I now dwell". That the sale also included "all my household goods and plate with one negro woman named Rosehannah".

It would be interesting to know if this land was in Nassau town or in the area formerly known as Spencer's Point.

John's sale of land along with household goods is significant because it may hint that this is the Nassovian who moved and established the Symonette family at Rock Sound. On the other hand, the sale may simply involve the home of John Symonette the elder who is known to have passed away in the years shortly after 1759.

Like his father before him and his son who followed, this John was a mariner.

The spelling of the Symonett - Symonette surname evolved over time, it was accompanied my many variations.
