Biography

Rhoda Symonette was born on 9 Jun 1922 in the Current Settlement, Eleuthera, Bahamas. She was the daughter of Edwin Julius Symonette and Elvira Virginia Symonette.

"Aunt Rhoda" , as she was known, neither married nor had children of her own but that didn't stop her from taking in other people's children and welcoming visitors. The youth from Ebenezer Methodist in Nassau would "camp" on her porch when they came to retreats at Current.

When her home burned, the community gathered and built her a new one.

Aunt Rhoda was lovingly cared for by nieces and nephews, including Shirley Weech. Rhoda passed away in 2002.
