Biography

Isabella was born in 1863. She is the daughter of John Symmons and Anne Kerr.

Isabella's father was a sawyer. By the time of her brother William's birth the family lived at Speddoch in Holywood Parish. Speddoch is described in the Ordnance Survey Books 1848-1858 as being "A neat mansion, out offices [toilets], garden and pleasure ground occupied by and property of G J Clark, Esq." [1]

In the 1871 census Isabella's parents Ann and John (a wood sawyer) and her brother William Kerr, 5 are at Scarbrae, Holywood. The Ordnance Survey Name Book 1848-1858 describes Scarbrae as "A few cottages and gardens occupied by labouring men" [2]

Isabella died shortly after her daughter Isabella was born. In the 1901 census, after Isabella's death, her sister Grace Symons is with the family in Chester, Cheshire. She is there as housekeeper and she is 48 years old and unmarried [3]
