Joseph Symons was born in the Colony of South Australia (1836-1900)
The eldest son of Cornish immigrants Joseph Symons, a miner, and his wife, Josepha Tregloan, Joseph was born in Kooringa, a mining town in the mid north of South Australia, on 19 April 1852.[1]
Joseph was very young when his father, attracted by the gold rush, moved the family to Ballarat, Victoria. By 1858 the family had moved again, and settled in Maldon, another mining town.
