Communication Preferences: I am interested in communicating private message with anyone who shares the same genealogical or historical interests. Here is my family tree.
My GG Grandfather was John Woodruff Syphers b Orange County New York State in 1823, d Gundagai NSW Aus 1863. Johns father was Henry Lambertson Sypher b 1800 Philipsburg/Westchester NY and I have traced his ancestors back through Peter (b 1762 my 4 x GGF), Petrus (b 1739 5 x GGF) to Johannis (prob b Germany 1700 my 6 x GGF) I have also followed Johannis' brother Wilhelm who arrived with him in America in 1726. Wilelm married Petronela Storm and her family history includes one of the very early interracial marriages in American history. I am keen to trace the brothers ancestors into the 17th Century and to understand what lead to their American adventure.

Hi Ken,

Thanks for self-certifying for the Pre-1700 badge! Collaboration with Pre-1700 Project members is essential for those wishing to edit Pre-1700 profiles. Collaboration is essential because those ancestors are usually shared by many descendants.

It looks like the England Project would be a good fit based on your branch of WikiTree. Review the project page to learn about resources and guidelines as well as how to collaborate with the project members.

Do you have any questions? Let me know. I'm happy to help! :-)

Remember to cite reliable sources in pre-1700 profiles you manage, or edit. (See:https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Pre-1700_Profiles#Cite_reliable_sources).

Ginny~ Pre-1700 Greeter

Thank you Virginia. Yes I realize that there more responsibility attached to Pre 1700 entries and I would not do so without collaboration. I have very few linkages to England and I am fairly much satisfied that my research efforts there are complete. The one exception being my 6 x Great Grandfather Johannes who appears to have been born in Germany in the Palatine region around 1700 and arrived in New York 17626. I have not so far been able to find his parents or prove a birth or baptism date. I suspect (based partly on hints from others) that there is a reasonable chance that he fled the Palatine region with his parents for England and from there to New York. My main interest therefore relates to New York state from about 1675 and when I am a little further down the track I will probably pursue involvement with the New Netherlands project or the Palatine project and possibly both. I have already had numerous contacts with people involved in both of these projects.

Thanks John. I like the tree hugger Icon. One of my golfing mates always calls me Kenny Koala and the logo reminds me of him and all the friends I have missed since we went into lock down in March. Unfortunately no end in sight here in Melbourne.

Thanks Wendy, I am making very good progress and have pretty much tracked my family back to 1700 with a just 2 obvious missing pieces of the puzzle to be found. I am 71 so am generationally challenged so far as my computer skills are concerned but, generally speaking I think the best approach is a bit like swimming, jump in at the deep end and figure out. Main trouble with that is that you don't leave footprints in the water but you do on computers. Hence yes I have inadvertantly made a few duplicate entries which need to be merged or "Pac Manned" I have fixed most of them and will get to work on the ones you mentioned shortly. So far I have not gotten stuck anywhere but I suspect that will happen some time soon and I will contact you for some help then. Once again thanks for contacting me and keeping an eye on me. Regards Ken

Thanks for upgrading, Ken. You are all set to collaborate with our members now. I hope you discover as much about your family as I have about mine over the last several years. Gilly is off duty right now but I'll bet you hear from her the next time she has a shift.

Check out the New Member How-to pages for some quick tips on working with both the Wiki pages and our other members. There is some great information in those pages.

Hi Gilly, Thanks for your welcome. I have largely put together a family tree off line and for the time being at least I am happy to leave it at that. I am interested to possibly use Wikitree to double check some dates and maybe other particulars, but so far I havn't developed a feel for using the site and I havn't had much success.

I will spend some more effort and perhaps contact you later. regards Ken
