Wicenty (Vincent) Szczepanski was born on 20 June 1874.[1] Not much is known about his early life. It is thought that he immigrated from Warsaw, Poland between 1896 and 1902.[2]

Vincent Szczepanski married Mary Nowakowska in New Jersey in 1902, likely at St. Joseph's Church.[3] Together, they lived at 1404 South 10th Street in Camden, New Jersey, which was right around the corner from the Polish Catholic congregation they belonged to.[4][5][6][1][7][8][9]

Together they had seven children, one boy and six girls. From oldest to youngest they are:

  1. Joseph Szczepanski
  2. Margaret N. (Szczepanska) Richards
  3. Helen (Szczepanska) Szwartz
  4. Cecilia V. (Szczepanska) Zakerowski
  5. Mary (Szczepanska) Wisniewski
  6. Irene T. (Szczepanska) Forsyth
  7. Josephine (Szczepanska) Jusiak.

Their daughter Margaret died at the young age of 22 from sarcoma in her neck, and Vincent and Mary raised her young son Clarence Richards in her absence.[9]

Vincent had a variety of jobs as a day laborer in New Jersey factories. In 1905 he was a machinist,[4] in 1910 a chipper at Locomotive W/E,[5] in 1917 a leather peeler at Peerless Kid Co.,[1][7] in 1930 a laborer in a paper mill operated by McAndrews & Forbes in Camden.[8] McAndrews & Forbes was a company that created licorice products including licorice root, licorice paste, and licorice extract. He was an employee for 35 years before retiring in 1951.[2] Aside from work, he was a member of the Polish Roman Catholic Union, Group 153.[2]

Vincent Szczepanski passed away on 10 May 1955 after suffering a short illness.[2] At the time of his death, his obituary reports that he had lived in Camden for 53 years.[2] He is buried at Saint Joseph's Cemetery, Chews Landing, Camden, New Jersey, next to his wife Mary (Nowakowska) Szczepanski.[10]
