He married first in Dartmouth to Elizabeth Spooner on 28 January 1701/2.[1][4] Her maiden surname is missing in the record, but it is supposed that she is the Elizabeth Spooner born on 29 June 1683 in Dartmouth to John and Rebecca (Peckham) Spooner.[1] Elizabeth's death is recorded as 14 July 1743, though this appears to be a typographical error for 1734.[1]
He married, secondly, on 30 November 1738 at Sandwich to Lydia (Abbott) Gifford. She married first to Jonathan Gifford on 03 August 1708 at Sandwich, as recorded in the Sandwich Quaker Meeting records. With Jonathan she had 7 children. Jonathan died in Sandwich on 10 February 1734/5.[1][5]
He died between 20 December 1748 and 27 November 1752, the dates his will was written and the warrant was issued for his inventory.[1]
The children of Joseph and Elizabeth Taber were born in Dartmouth:[1]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Joseph by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA test-takers in his direct paternal line.
Mitochondrial DNA test-takers in the direct maternal line:
Taber-1294 and Taber-55 appear to represent the same person because: I would like to merge for these two, Joseph as they are the same person, married 2 times.
Joseph Taber-1294 and Taber-55 are unlikely to both be sons of Thomas and Mary. They share the same date of birth and birthplace. My tree has Joseph married to Elizabeth Spooner; I'm not familiar with Lydia Abbott. Joseph is unlikely to have married Lydia in 1734, as Elizabeth Spooner was still alive.
