Biography

Eva L. Taft was born on 12 Jan. 1871 at New York, USA.[1] She appeared on the census of 5 June 1875 in the household of her parents, Merrit M. Taft and Maria (--?--) Taft, at Jasper, Steuben County, New York.[2] She appeared on the census of 25 June 1880 in the household of her parents at Jasper, Steuben County, New York.[3] She appeared on the census of 16 Feb. 1892 in the household of her parents at Jasper, Steuben County, New York.[4] She was a milliner when she appeared on the census of 15 June 1900 in the household of her brother, Benjamin Taft and sister-in-law, Maude (Batchelder) Simpson, at Jasper, Steuben County, New York.[5]

She married Leverett Jerome Simpson, son of Jerome Madison Simpson and Nancy Ann (Griffin) Simpson, on 8 Aug. 1900 at Steuben County, New York.[6]

She and Leverett appeared on the census of 18 April 1910 at 51 East Main St., Canisteo, Steuben County, New York.[7] She and Leverett appeared on the census of 9 Jan. 1920 at Prospect Ave., Canisteo, Steuben County, New York.[8] She and Leverett appeared on the census of 10 April 1930 at Canisteo, Steuben County, New York.[9] She and Leverett appeared on the census of 11 April 1940 at 99 Main St., Hornell, Steuben County, New York.[10]

Also "They were 93 years old, Eva 93 Jan. 16 and L.J. 93 Mar. 7th" these dates conflict with other dates but years seem to be correct. Esther writes "He (L.J.) went crazy and Hugh said he raved terrible and it took 5 people to hold him on the bed" This was at the death of his wife. Collection of Phil Smith.
