His parents were Robert Tait , weaver, deceased, and Elizabeth Bow, deceased. Cause of death as certified by John Cormack, MD, was old age and probably heart disease.

His son-in-law Adam Thomson registered the death on the 31st August 1871 at Peebles, Registrar R Stirling.

Disputed Mother
Robert Tait is listed as having a mother named 'Agnes Cowan' on Rootsweb. The transcription of what sounds like his death certificate refers to his mother being 'Elizabeth Bow.'
