Research Notes

Thomas Talbot the son of Francis Talbot 5th Earl of Shrewsbury died in his father's lifetime i.e. before 21 September 1560. His father had only one surviving son when he died in 1560. Lord Mowbray in his published family history says of Thomas's father: "Francis Talbot, Earl of Shrewsbury, Lord Furnivall, Lord Strange de Blackmere, and Lord Talbot, K.G. He was born 1500, and, vita patris, was summoned to Parliament in his father's Barony of Talbot. He married firstly, before December, 1523, Mary, daughter of Thomas Dacre, Lord Dacre de Gillesland, by whom he had issue. He married a second time, but died the 21st of September, 1560, being succeeded by his eldest and only surviving son, George Talbot".[2]

His father's entry in the Dictionary of National Biography says simply that Thomas "died young".[3]

According to his father's Wikipedia entry, Thomas died unmarried and without issue.[4]

No evidence found of a marriage or children, and there seems to be little doubt he died before 1560, so could not be the father of Richard born 1580.

I removed Richard Talbott as a child of Thomas because it is chronologically impossible as Richard was born about 1580 and Thomas is confirmed through contemporary sources to have predeceased his father, who died in 1560.

Thomas’ mother as Mary Dacre and this profile says he married Mary Docre. Is this too much of a coincidence? Could you please add sources to support these relationships.
