Biography

Thomas Talbot was a son of Richard, 4th Lord Talbot, and Ankaret le Strange.[1]

"Thomas, the youngest [son of Richard Talbot] was more favoured by his mother, for she provided him with the manors of Cheswardine and Wrockwardine. He was in his brother William's company at Agincourt and probably fought at the battle of the Seine in the following year, for he was retained in May 1416 to go to France for the relief of Harfleur. He was clearly quite closely attached to his brother John for in the same year he was a witness to a deed of Hugh, Lord Burnell, settling lands on his young nephew John at the time of the latter's betrothal to Hugh's granddaughter Katherine, and in 1418 he accompanied both his brothers John and Richard to Ireland".[2][3]

On 24 June 1418 Sir Thomas Talbot, brother and deputy of the lieutenant [John Talbot, knight], arrested Gerald fitz Maurice, fifth earl of Kildare, and Sir Christopher Preston at Clane, Co. Kildare.[4]

"He probably returned with John in 1419, but he died, like William, without issue, before 17 October. The lands granted to both of them hence reverted to the main inheritance".[2]

He died 17 Sep 1419.[5]

The Inquisition of the lands of his niece ‘Anchoret’ Talbot, daughter of his elder brother Gilbert Talbot, took place in Dec 1421 through to Feb 1421/1422. Gilbert was deceased and Anchoret was a minor. She died on 13 Dec last [1421]. The Inquisition indicates that she was also the heir of Thomas Talbot (deceased), brother of Gilbert Talbot, who had held 2/3 of the manor of Wrockwardine.[6]
