Biography

  • Joseph was the first white child born in Monroe Twp., Ashtabula Co., Ohio. Joseph accompanied his parents to Warren Co., Indiana from Ohio. In 1832 he married Eliza Troth in Warren Co., Indiana. They moved to Marengo, Iowa where Eliza had a son named George Washington Talbott in1834. She died about 6 months later. Joseph and the baby moved back to Warren Co. Indiana. In 1836 Joseph married Mariah Sever in Warren Co., Indiana. Son Daniel was born in 1837 and son Isaac in 1839. After the death of his second wife, Joseph left his sons Isaac and Daniel in the care of his parents. Not sure where son George went. When Joseph married his third wife, Mary Ann Stuntz in 1839, he took the boys to his own home to raise them. Joseph and Mary Ann, had two daughters. In 1842 at the age of 40, Joseph died. Mary raised her two daughters, but the boys were again given to relatives. Daniel lived with his Aunt Angeline in Attica, Indiana until he was 6 years old. She kept him off and on until he was 10 years old. Then she moved to Iowa.
