William succeeded as Lord of Bentley, Suffolk, in 1255, following the death of his father. Beyond the usual thirteenth century lawsuits with their neighbours, their lives seem to have produced little of interest, according to the Tollemache book.
A quitclaim document of 29 October 1272, suggests that William probably died around this date. Peter, son of William "Talemache" of Bentley, is mentioned in a quitclaim document witnessed by Hugh Talemache, knight, and others. This appears to relate to the death of his father and re-possession of property.
