Biography

The 28 Jul 1740 marriage record (in Bargen, Canton Schaffhausen, Switzerland) of Hans Jacob Tanner clearly identifies her as Ursula (no "Elizabeth") Tanner, indicating her maiden name was the same as her married name. (There were a number of Tanner families in the region.) They were both of Bargen (Switzerland).

A previous version of this profile attached as father Ludowick Tanner but he was born in Virginia. Since Ursula married in Bargen, Switzerland, she is not at all likely to be daughter of a Virginia-born man.

She died 1760 in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canada.

or died 28 JUL 1753 in Blue Rock, Nova Scotia, Canada (or is that Jacob's death?)

From Dave Tanner-Halifax- to Jillaine Smith (12 April 2010):

"There is some confusion on the wife of Jacob Tanner. Son Chris born to Jacob and Elizabeth in Halifax in 1750. Subsequent children in Lunenburg born to Jacob and Ursula. Bell assumes that the Elizabeth Tanner buried Jul 28 1753 in Halifax (St Pauls) was a first wife, and that Jacob then married an "Ursula" [subsequent finding of 1740 marriage record indicates he married an Ursula, not Elizabeth]. This led some to assume that Ursula and Elizabeth were same person, as first child of Ursula in Lunenburg was baptised 9 mos and 3 weeks after the "Elizabeth" was buried in Hfx. The Elizabeth who died was likely a child of Samuel or Andrew, two English Tanners in Halifax in 1750. The recent uncovering of a 1740 marriage record in Switzerland for Jacob and Ursula would seem to eliminate "Elizabeth" as a separate wife.

I don't think Ursula is the daughter of Lodowick Tanner. The locations don't add up.
