Biography

Thomas was born in 1743 in Connecticut, son of Thomas and Martha Tanner.

He enlisted at age 18 and served two years in the French and Indian War. He also later fought in the Revolutionary War.

He married Anna Baldwin on 30 Oct 1765 and they later moved to Cooperstown, New York.

In May, 1776, he was appointed second lieutenant of Capt. Smith's company Col. Bradley battalion and Gen. Wadworth's brigade. He was taken prisoner November 16. During the night he and his comrades were marched through New York to Brooklyn, where he was held four years a prisoner, finally released on parole and returned to his family in Cornwall.

He passed away in 1818 in New York at age 74.
