Biography

Sarah Sophronia Taplin was born in 1851 in Indiana to Minard Taplin and Elizabeth Plant.

In 1860, eight year old Sarah lived in Marshall, Indiana. Her father Minard (44) was a carpenter. He was from Vermont while her mother Elizabeth (44) was from England. Her siblings were Emily A (17), Mary J (15), James E (12), John M (5) and William M (3). Sarah was the first in her family to be born in Indiana as her elder siblings were born in Ohio^[1].

Sarah married Joseph McCormack on 1 Jan 1867 in Marshall, Indiana^[2].

Joseph and Sarah moved to Cook, Illinois before 1870. In 1870, they lived in Hyde Park. Joseph was twenty seven and a gardener while Sarah was nineteen and kept the house. They had two daughters by now, two year old Nelly and baby Bertha^[3].
